eBook Description: Cowboy Christmas Audio Double-Feature: Two Complete Radio Adventures Plus Special Commentary! During the years now known to Old Time Radio (OTR) fans as the Golden Age of Radio listeners could expect to hear special guests and holiday sketches on their favorite programs. Even the western shows and cowboy stars of the day could be counted on to show the holiday spirit, especially at Christmas time. This Audio Archive presentation showcases two such Christmas episodes from two of radio's most popular western programs; "GUNSMOKE" and "THE ROY ROGERS SHOW", both from December 1952. The radio series "GUNSMOKE", was concieved as an 'adult western'. It first aired on the CBS radio network April 26, 1952 and starred vertran voice actor William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillion. Roy Rogers, starred in over 100 movies and had long been known as "The King of the Cowboys" when he began the radio program "THE ROY ROGERS SHOW" in November 1944. Considered by many to be the best of the 'singing cowboys' Roy Rogers became a matinee idol and American legend. He exemplified the best qualities of the good hearted, but two fisted, cowboy heros of film fame. In the first show of this "Audio Archive Cowboy Christmas Double-Feature", a "Gunsmoke" episode originally aired Decemeber 20, 1952 entitled "The Christmas Story", we find Marshal Dillon stranded on Christmas eve forty miles from Dodge City, on foot and carrying his saddle. He meets up with a mysterious stranger, and his tired old sway-back nag, while trying to make his way back to town. Chester, Doc Adams and Miss Kitty are waiting at the 'Texas Trail' saloon for Mr. Dillon to join the holiday festivities, but will Matt be able to get home for Christmas? In the second 'Cowboy Christmas' show, originally aired December 25, 1952 and titled "The Night Before The Night Before Christmas", Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and sidekick Pat Brady try to save the day for a five year old girl whose father has been wrongly jailed for burglarizing the Mineral City general store on Christmas eve. The episode features the song "Go To Sleep My Little Buckeroo", a classic example of the musical duets for which Roy and Dale were famous. Each episode is preceded by historical and biographical information about the show and it's stars researched and written by series host Bill Mills. Produced for REB Audio Books by Bill Mills.
